COUNCIL PETITION: Request To Remove Mayor Position | Community Spirit

More than 300 residents signed a petition submitted this week calling for a change in the city government.

According to a press release, the residents requested a change from a Mayor-council form to a Council-manager-at-large form.

Under a state code, at least 25% of eligible voters of the last city election are required to submit a petition. In this case that threshold was 200 voters.

The city council is now required to set a date for a vote and must publish that date within 15 days upon receipt of the petition.

The change would reduce the council from 6 seats to 5.

The latest March 5th council meeting had no mention of the petition in the minutes available online.

The current mayor is James Mueller whom has served since 2004 and is partway through his third term..
